Walter Bridges

The Doc BongoTM is a recording artist and percussionist who specializes in membrainaphones known as bongos. A student of psychotherapy, his extensive experience and talents generate unique approaches to psychotherapy with males of all ages. His up and coming CD, “The Humpadilliac,” captures his smooth, funk, spoken word style and is designed to send a message to young and older males. A pioneer in the field of male involvement in family planning, he is noted for his perspectives on the role of males in raising healthy children and on developing “genuine” personal and business relationships often, though music and theater.

The Doc BongoTM earned his Masters Degree from Hunter College School of Social Work, where he majored in Administration and minored in Casework. He also holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from York College, where he focused on African American History and the Black Family.

An artist of alternative dance music, The Doc BongoTM has been deeply influence by the writings of Zora Neal Hurston and her authentication of the Southern dialect, its roots in slave culture, and its connection to modern slang. His rifts are filled with words designed to deliver messages in the Southern historical form of jokes, lies and stories which he models after the works of Oscar Brown Jr.

A native of North Carolina, he has played and recorded with various R&B, jazz, funk, and fusion artists for over 40 years.\\\
